Each evening he was treated to Morrisson’s groceries, hand-chopped by my Dad, his doting groom. (The checkout lady remarked how healthy Dad’s diet was, as his trolley brimmed with veg.) Many teas and much clicker training practice passed, as we awaited the arrival of the Western Saddle. Months later it arrived- We could begin ridding in earnest just like old times. We’d be doing pub rides, paddles in the ford and hacking with friends, maybe even a c.a.n.t.e.r in the favourite spot. e through the West Sussex Village past tractors and lorries was like a dream, just like when I found Odin. (This was a totally different experience to the loan fjord I had that was related to Odin). We were assured she was as safe as houses perfect for an RDAer like me, when she arrived home she didn’t lead well and couldn’t seem to pass a car safely. It wasn’t to be.)
Our piebald love arrived at HQ, having been assured his teeth had received an extensive MOT. I still felt it best to check and the vet also confirmed all was well in his chops. New saddle on order, to fit the little Irish Pony like a glove, we took to long reining and a bit of clicker training whilst we waited for it to arrive from Germany,

Buying a horse is worse than buying a second-hand car. We are an in horsey unhorsey family. As I hoped onto the mounting block , our chief groom helped me haul myself onboard, with so enthusiasm he almost pushed me out the side door! traction and treatment for an infection. I was beside myself. We changed vets.

The youngest member of staff at Woodville is 9 going on 30. One day he looked downcast because he was struggling to tell the time. The Youngest member of staff is apparently severely dyslexic and struggling at school, frustrated that life because life is hard and desperate to read Horrid Henry, he’s charmingly cute and the yard but has been known to throw wobblers at school. I knew how he felt, I felt like chucking down my hat and throwing a wobbler as Mick and I continued to struggle. Mickey and the Youngest member of staff were making great progress. The yard suggested I try a fresh start with Rosie.

The youngest member of staff hung over the stable door and advised me that I needed to take the time to bond with Rosie, just like he was doing with ‘his pony’ He suggested said we could learn together, and we’ve started a riding challenge. They are in the lead, doing trotting poles- I’m letting them win 🙂 In many ways the youngest member of staff and I are kindred spirits, struggling but persevering and both winning.
I wonder, whether the right horse always finds you, s- if one isn’t right it leads you to another, like life, the journey you plan isn’t always where you end up, either way we are all enjoying our journey.
